she snuggled right into my shoulder and I felt an instant connection with her.\u00a0 I wrote her this poem:<\/p>\n<p><strong>I LOVED YOU THE MOMENT I MET YOU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I saw your sweet face and your very sad eyes<\/p>\n<p>Before I saw the massive lump on your very small size.<\/p>\n<p>I picked you up, felt the touch of your nose,<\/p>\n<p>You put your head on my shoulder and snuggled in close.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was at that moment that our hearts connected,<\/p>\n<p>I so wanted you &#8211; to feel protected.<\/p>\n<p>You lay in my car and you gave a big sigh<\/p>\n<p>The state you were in &#8211; made me want to cry!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I chatted to you and I told you just wait,<\/p>\n<p>Life will get better &#8211; it\u2019s gonna be great!<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll sort out this mess and you\u2019ll have lots of fun,<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll eat lovely food &#8211; and can have a good run.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When we bathed you and I saw and felt the full extent of your state &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Reason told me &#8211; we might be too late.<\/p>\n<p>I lay awake for hours &#8211; thinking that the wait.<\/p>\n<p>Had very likely signed and sealed &#8211; a sad and tragic fate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But hope springs eternal and I did dare to hope,<\/p>\n<p>Though tough surgery in your state &#8211; how would you cope?<\/p>\n<p>With hope in my heart and prayers on my mind,<\/p>\n<p>We went to the vet &#8211; to see what they\u2019d find.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some signs were good &#8211; your heart beat was steady,<\/p>\n<p>Blood flow was good &#8211; perhaps you were ready?<\/p>\n<p>But hope was shortlived &#8211; and tests today found &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The illness had already gained major ground.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Oh honey I wanted so very much more for you,<\/p>\n<p>I wish there was something more we could all do.<\/p>\n<p>But we\u2019ll wrap our love around you &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Love will carry you along<\/p>\n<p>And when we say Goodbye to you<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll not doubt that you belong.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your little life does matter<\/p>\n<p>To us you\u2019re so special<\/p>\n<p>You exchanged a piece of your heart<\/p>\n<p>With the hearts of one and all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll never be forgotten<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll live on in our hearts<\/p>\n<p>We will talk of you &#8211; and memories mean<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll never be apart.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Hope Springs family member &#8211; you will FOREVER be<\/p>\n<p>And in our special garden<\/p>\n<p>Your soul will frolic &#8211; where she would take her time and have a good sniff of everything.<\/p>\n<p>We also took Casey to the beach for an outing &#8211; where she met lots of other dogs and people, paddled in the water, dug in the sand, chased seagulls, ate vanilla ice-cream and watched the sun go down.<\/p>\n<p>She enjoyed her food and was a happy little dog &#8211; right up until the end.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I held you today\u2026\u2026\u2026..<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I held you today as you passed away &#8211; I really wanted \u2013 to beg you to stay<\/p>\n<p>But I looked in your eyes \u2013 and I heard you say \u2013 I\u2019m sorry but \u2013 today is the day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We had a long cuddle and I stroked your ears &#8211; I felt your heart and you felt my tears<\/p>\n<p>I whispered \u2013 it\u2019s okay honey, I know you\u2019re worn out \u2013 And you don\u2019t understand what the pain\u2019s all about<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for allowing me \u2013 to be \u2013 your friend &#8211; And to be there for you \u2013 as you come to the end.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the way to the vet &#8211; I patted your head &#8211; And I wished we could go \u2013 somewhere else instead<\/p>\n<p>You turned your head to me &#8211; And I looked over to you &#8211; I didn\u2019t know If I could do &#8211; what you needed me to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s such a hard thing &#8211; to knowingly bring a life to a close &#8211; As others who\u2019ve had to do it \u2013 would know<\/p>\n<p>Right now you\u2019re here \u2013 but when we enter the door &#8211; Your light and your spirit \u2013 will be no more<\/p>\n<p>The emptiness on leaving is hard to explain &#8211; Your collar in my hand \u2013 the only thing to remain<\/p>\n<p>That you\u2019re now gone forever is hard to comprehend &#8211; The knowing that I\u2019ll never see you again<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I so hope you were happy \u2013 and knew you were cared for<\/p>\n<p>Though our time was short \u2013 we loved you so much more<\/p>\n<p>I hope you\u2019re now rolling in grass that is silky &#8211; with blue skies above and clouds that are milky<\/p>\n<p>Where butterflies dance without a care \u2013 and the gentlest of breezes ruffles your hair<\/p>\n<p>I hope there are flowers as pretty as you \u2013 in lots of colours and every hue<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I so hope it\u2019s true that I\u2019ll see you again \u2013 when our time down here comes to a close<\/p>\n<p>Until then my sweet \u2013 you\u2019re a puppy again \u00a0&#8211;
